02 - Blood, Sweat And Tears

Verse:

Am E
Some time ago in the city run solely on steam
      E Am
The power plant workers would rise and stick to routine
  Dm Am
Breakin' their backs 'til their work shirts were dirty and brown
    E Am
As year after year, they'd work for the good of the town

    Am E
As parts would get old, these men would make the repairs
   E Am
Changing out axles and belts with meticulous care
 Dm Am
Working their hands to the bone and slaving away
         E E
They'd press on with diligence and as they strained you could hear them say,

Chorus:

              Dm
"With our blood, sweat, and tears
         Am
And the grinding of gears
           E Am
We shall slave to keep our beautiful city alive!

             Dm
"Yes, with blood, sweat, and tears
           Am
And the passing of years
         E Am
We'll expend ourselves so our fair people may thrive!"

One afternoon Frederick Worthington clocked into work
He went to his station not knowing the danger that lurked
He pulled on the lever to start up the massive machine
But deep in the workings was something he had not foreseen

The pistons were pumping as pressure began to accrue
And suddenly one of the tanks had to give, and it blew
Frederick was knocked back into an assortment of gears
And there in an instant he came to an end with his GREATEST FEAR!

And with blood, sweat, and tears
And the grinding of gears
This disaster happened in front of our terrified eyes

Yes, with blood, sweat, and tears
In his premature years
Frederick met his unfortunate, wholly untimely demise

So with blood, sweat, and tears
We must face what we fear
And although it's tragic, and everyone's sad that he's gone

With our blood, sweat, and tears
We return to our gears
This city still needs us to work, so we must carry on

With our blood, sweat, and tears
And the grinding of gears
We shall slave to keep our beautiful city alive!
Yes, with blood, sweat, and tears
And the passing of years
We'll expend ourselves so our fair people may thrive!

03 - Loverboy

Verse:
         G
Oh, Loverboy!
              A
That woman's heart is not a toy
        D
Don't play with her affections
    G
Or falsify her joy
      G
Just settle down
             A
You better stop running around
     D G
Or soon you're gonna wind up down six feet underground

Loverboy!
I know your girl is pretty coy
She don't deserve this treatment
From such a callow boy
But she'll catch on
You're gonna miss her when she's gone
You think you're pretty clever
But she'll be out by dawn

Chorus:

  С7
(She's so pure and)
  G
Shows such deep affection
  C7
(All you do is)
  G
Try to please yourself
 C7
(If you fail to)
 G
Go the right direction
 A D
I may have to beat you down myself

Loverboy!
Your actions make me so annoyed
You better stop at once before her spirits are destroyed
So cut it out
'Cause this is not what love's about
Well you'll regret your actions
I know without a doubt

Loverboy!
What happened to your prior joy?
Your lady learned the truth
And now she moved to Illinois?
You'll take no wife
Now say hello to pain and srife
And welcome a disease that you'll be carrying for life

Oh, Loverboy!
Yeah, Loverboy!
You've finally been discovered, boy!
Congratulations, Loverboy!
Yeah, Loverboy!
Oh, Loverboy!
Your wandering days are over boy
Loverboy, that's right!

04 – The Copper War

Intro: Dm C Bb A

Verse:

 Dm C
Verdigris Patina was a peaceful little town
     Bb A
The home of Wilbur Redpot, finest coppersmith around
        Dm C
He was famous for his products, as they sold extremely well
    Bb A
Competitors were livid as their business income fell
       Dm C
Now, Alexander Copperplate, a man from out of town,
    Bb A
Declared his gang was coming soon to shoot poor Wilbur down
     Dm C
The town was in a panic, they knew something should be done
         Bb A Dm
And they had till morning sun!

Chorus:

    Dm Bb
So saddle up your steam-bike and put your goggles on
       F A
We've got to be prepared or else we'll all be dead by dawn
 Dm Bb
Copperplate is coming, and his eyes are seeing red,
         Bb A Dm
And he's after Wilbur's head!

The townsfolk got together and they figured out a plan
They knew they'd have to do their best to save their fellow man
And, though they had no weapons, they all had a lot of brains:
They'd build machines to leave their villain in a world of pain!
So Wilbur brought the copper, old Frank supplied the steel;
Bob and Sue had extra chains, and Tommy brought the wheels;
They knew they'd have a chance with these, they knew they'd win the fight,
And they worked all through the night!

So saddle up your steam-bike and put your goggles on
We've got to be prepared or else we'll all be dead by dawn
Copperplate is coming and his eyes are seeing red,
And he's after Wilbur's head!

Verse III:
(1 semitone upper)

       D#m C#
Well Copperplate arrived at dawn, he stayed true to his word
         B A#
But the town was deathly silent, not a soul was to be heard
He yelled out, "Redpot! Come on out, and fight me like a man!"
And that was when the churning and the chugging sounds began
An army of the townsfolk soon poured out into the street
Each of them on steam-bikes, and they all were packing heat
They had his men surrounded, there was fear on every face
          B A# D#
And they put them in their place!

Chorus:

  D#m B
Power up your steam-bike, let's show 'em who's in charge
       F# A#
We've got our ropes and grappling hooks and weapons to discharge
  D#m B
Copperplate is panicked and his face is turning white
           B A# D#m
And we're gonna win this fight!

That's right! Let's go!

Now power down your steam-bike, we finally took 'em down
We strung 'em up and licked 'em good and ran them out of town
Verdigris Patina is a peaceful town once more
And we won the Copper War!

Hyah!

   Bb Eb Bb Eb
A girl sweet and pure like no other
   Bb Em F
With dreams just as big as the sea
     Bb Eb Bb Eb
You left for exploring the ocean
      Gm F Em
But I wish you would come back to me

Chorus:

 Bb F Eb
Aimee, please come home
        Bb F Eb
You're out there all alone
Bb D Gm Eb
Submarines are just machines
     Gm F Eb
But I am flesh and blood
     Gm F Eb
Machines can't give you love

So you sail through the weeds and the coral
In your cold underwater seacraft
And I hope you enjoy your adventure
But I pray that you'll soon change your plans

Aimee please come home
You're out there all alone
Submarines are just machines
But I am flesh and blood
And I can give you love

Aimee please come home
You're out there all alone
Submarines are just machines
But I am flesh and blood
And I will give you love

So, tell me that you'll understand
And say you'll let me be your man
Here we go!

Honey, I would hate to make you blue
And it's the case maybe, perhaps, I'm not the man for you
But, if you're thinking that I am
Then baby let me be your man
Say you'll let me be your man
I would love to be your man
(Be your man)

08 – The Depths Below
[ Tab from: http://www.guitaretab.com/t/the-cog-is-dead/328698.html ]
Verse:
   Cm
There's an ancient legend
An oceanic tale
   Fm Cm G
An underwater monster not a fish and not a whale
    Cm
It isn't quite a creature
It isn't quite machine
    Fm Cm G Cm
And you won't know what hit you 'til you hear your crewmen scream!

Down below the ocean
It's waiting in the dark
When there's stormy weather it will tear your ship apart
Its tentacles are massive
Its teeth are made of steel
You may call it myth, but I assure you that it's real!

Chorus:
 Fm Cm G Cm
When the waves come rolling in, and lightning fills the sky,
Fm Cm G Cm
All the sailors know that the leviathan is nigh!
Fm Cm G Cm
If he grabs onto your boat, he'll never let you go
Fm Cm G
Soon you'll join a thousand ships he's sent to the depths below!

A body made of metal
But with a living brain
Survivors who have told of it have all been called insane
But many ships have vanished
They've gone without a word
Perhaps the stories that these sailors tell aren't that absurd!

So if you sail the ocean
Stay always on your guard
Or you may wind up lifeless when that monster hits you hard
He'll wrap himself around you
You'll wish that you weren't born
So if this beast attacks you please don't say that you weren't warned!

When the waves come rolling in, and lightning fills the sky,
All the sailors know that the leviathan is nigh!
If he grabs onto your boat, he'll never let you go--
Soon you'll join a thousand ships he's sent to the depths below!

When the waves come rolling in, and lightning fills the sky,
All the sailors know that the leviathan is nigh!
If he grabs onto your boat, he'll never let you go--
Soon you'll join a thousand ships he's sent to the depths be...

One, two, three, four

Intro: A C#m A C#m D F#m
D E

Verse:

A C#m
It isn't easy watching you fade away
A C#m
To see you growing weaker day by day
     D
Your face is so pale
         F#m
And your energy's drained
      D E
It's hard to admit that soon your life won't remain

I won't accept that there isn't a cure
It must be somewhere and I'll find it I'm sure
If modern science can't provide what you need
Then I'll find the year that will let me succeed

Chorus:

    A C#m D
And I'll build a time machine for you
I swear
      F#m E A
I'll save your life somehow
           C#m
You will stay with me
    D
My love
     F#m E A
So please don't leave me now

It's complicated trying to build this machine
I'm making something that the world's never seen
But darling I promise that I won't let you down
I swear I won't stop until the remedy's found

A few more rivets and the bolts fastened tight
I think that I might have it ready tonight
So just hang in there, darling try to be strong
I'll find what you need, I won't be gone very long

And I built this time machine for you
I swear
I'll save your life somehow
You will stay with me
My love
So please don't leave me now

So I built this time machine for you
My dear
I didn't let you down
You'll be safe with me
My love
And I'll protect you now...

10 – The Inventor’s Daughter

Intro: A D E A A D
E A

Verse:

    A D
I once knew a girl with a heart of gold
     E A
Two legs of copper and arms of chrome
      A D
The prettiest girl I ever knew
  E A
I loved each rivet, bolt and screw

Shiny locks of wire hair
And copper plating everywhere
There was no doubt she had to be
The one and only girl for me

Chorus:
 E A
But she was the daughter of a mean old man,
     E A
An inventor who just wouldn't let her go
     E A
And though his creation had grown fond of me,
       D E
His continual responses told me no

So we made a plan to elope that day
We packed our kisses to the far away
I went to her window late that night
And she was ready for our flight

I was happy as I could be
When she wrapped her tiny metal arms round me
And with a propeller sticking from her head
We switched it on and fled!

But her father was a crazy man
And he didn't want to let us get away
He was able to pull us from the sky that night
With a powerful magnetic ray

So he took my girl from me
And shunned me for eternity
He locked her up inside a room
As cold and awful as a tomb

And though I am consumed with rage
I know that man is up in age
And soon as he is finally dead
Then she and I will wed!

La, la, la la la
La, la la la la la la
La, la, la la la
La, la la la la la la

La, la, la la la

"We interrupt this broadcast to bring you breaking news. At approximately 2:05 PM this
afternoon, an English clockmaker by the name of Hamilton revealed to the world a new kind
of clock. This sick, twisted design displays the time digitally on a small backlit
screen and is run entirely on electricity. Hamilton predicts that this new abomination is the
way of the future, and believes that someday these hideous creations of his will be in
every home in the world. It is with deep regret that we announce to you, dear listeners,
that the cog is dead. We repeat: The cog is dead."

11 – The Death Of The Cog

Verse:
Cm Fm
Oh, Mr. Hamilton, what have you done?
Cm G
Look at this terrible trend you've begun!
Fm Cm
You make me sick, you contemptible dog,
         G Cm
I blame you for the death of the cog!

Clocks used to be such magnificent things
Beautiful sprockets and dazzling springs
But you gave the people your digital beast
And in turn now all gears are deceased

Chorus:

Fm Cm
How things have changed from when I was a boy!
  G Cm
Clockwork would tick and would bring me much joy
  Fm Cm
But, with your advent, there's no need to wind –
 G Cm
Everything charming has been left behind!

Oh, Mr. Hamilton, you dirty fiend
Your modern timepiece is cruel and obscene!
I was a lover of gears great and small
They all were my friends and you've murdered them all!

Aaaahhh...

How could a person commit such a crime -
To murder immaculate keepers of time?
Why should a person so foul get away?
Hamilton, you're gonna pay!

So, Mr. Hamilton, just watch your back
Hide all those digital clocks on your rack
They'll soon end up smashed to bits in a bog
Because you, you, you, you, YOU
Caused the DEATH OF THE COG!

Aaaahhh...

C F G C
Little lady I see you sitting there in your flower garden
      F G C
You looking so pretty reading underneath that chestnut tree (So fine)
             F G C
I think your goggles and parasol are quite a combination
              F G
Why don't you let me come over and keep you company

Chorus:
C F G
I want you to know
                               C
You're the kind of girl for me
    F G
I need you to know
                                C
You're the only one I see
    F G
I must let you know
                            C
And nobody else will do
        F G
Cause I want only you
                          C
You better believe it's true!

Let me take you around the village in my locomotive
I promise I won't get any soot upon your lovely dress (I swear!)
I am a gentlemen you can trust me that I have pure motives
But you have taken my heart so girl I must confess

Here we go, then
I want you to know
You're the kind of girl for me
I need you to know
You're the only one I see
I must let you know
And nobody else will do
Cause I want only you
Now blow that horn!

Sounds good

Listen what I say!
Girl you so fine, madame won't you be mine
You got me mesmerized wit your brass goggles' shine
And a little golden locket with a key and a lock
Your look is so amazing from your hat to your socks
Now I'm sure you don't believe I'm feeling love at first sight
But that's the reason that I'm asking you to join me tonight
We going one then two then three then four
Soon you gonna fall in love with me for even more!

I want you to know (To know)
You're the kind of girl for me
I need you to know (Dat's right)
You're the only one I see
I must let you know (Is true)
Nobody else will do
Cause I want only you
One more time

I want you to know (Listen up now)
You're the kind of girl for me
I need you to know (You now)
You're the only one I see
I must let you know (Just you)
Nobody else will do
Cause I want only you
Only you

13 – A Letter to Michelle

Well, the time has come for the final story of the evening. Let's listen in as inventor
Thomas Livingston prepares to set sail for adventure in a brand new flying machine!

Intro: C E Am F |x2

Verse:

C F
It was spring of 1890
         Am G
Thomas Livingston had built a new machine
C F
And he planned to see the world
        Am G
Flying everywhere to places yet unseen

          Am
When the day to set sail finally arrived
    F
He hugged his son and he kissed his wife
     C G
And set off on the journey through the sky

         Am
And the first few months went just as planned
   F
They were leaving Rome for Amsterdam
               C G
When a pirate vessel caught them by surprise

Pre-Chorus:

       Am
Well, panic broke out
E
On that ship
 F C
Cannons fired and bullets ripped
        Am
Though Thomas stood firm
E
In the fight,
   F G
He feared he'd have to write:

Chorus:
C E
"Dear Michelle, I won't be coming home
       Am
I'm drifting out across the clouds
  F
Into the great unknown

C E
"There's no way I'll ever make it back
      Am
It's vast out here, and I have veered
   F
So very far off track

"Please look after Jim
And take good care of him
Oh, Michelle, I know you will raise him well

"I wish I could return
But now you'll have to learn
To carry on when your family man is gone"

As the pirates waged their war
Thomas tried to fight and counter their attacks
But the fiends had them outnumbered
And a gunman shot his first mate in the back

Well they picked off his men, one by one
There was nothing they could do, and there was nowhere to run
And it wouldn't be long 'til the scoundrels shot them all

Then with one final blast that shook the ship
Thomas Livingston's vessel took a critical hit
And down his mighty craft began to fall

And Thomas then thought of his miss
He couldn't let her know he went down like this
He wrote a letter to Michelle,
As down his airship fell:

"Dear Michelle, I won't be coming home
I'm drifting out across the clouds
Into the great unknown

"There's no way I'll ever make it back
It's vast out here, and I have veered
So very far off track

"Please look after Jim
And take good care of him
Oh Michelle, I know you will raise him well

"I wish I could return
But now you'll have to learn
To carry on when your family man is gone

"Please look after Jim
And take good care of him
Oh Michelle, I know you will raise him well

"I wish I could return
But now you'll have to learn
To carry on when your family man is gone"
