* Texas never whispers by Pavement *
====================================
Chords used: ( slightly muted in different ways and places )
A F# E G# D G intro chord
E------x-----x-----x-----x-----x-----x--------x-----
B------x-----x-----x-----x-----x-----x--------x-----
G------x-----x-----x-----x-----x-----x--------9-- <--|
D------x-----x-----x-----x-----x-----x--------7----- |
A------7-----4-----2-----6-----0-----5--------7----- |
D------7-----4-----2-----6-----0-----5--------7----- |
|
^ Note the Drop D tuning |
this string is picked |
every now and then
=================================================================
The Guitar follows the Bass line for the first section then goes
into more lead material. The bass follows the notes given below
with a few minor slide techniques. Sorry if its a bit disjointed,
this is my first attempt at transcribing anything. I think its
pretty workable though. What can I say?... Great Song - One of
there Best! Feel free to add to or amend!
Prelude: This is probably keyboard NOVATION BASS STATION
but here is what it would look like with guitar
(x4)
E|-------------------------|-------------
B|-12-13-15-13-12----12----|-12-13(hold)-
G|----------------12----10-|-------------
D|-------------------------|-------------
A|-------------------------|-------------
E|-------------------------|-------------
Interlude: One guitar playing a slightly muted A power chord for a few bars.
Another guitar picking between the 5th fret on the B string and the 2nd fret
on the G string. Or alternatively use the intro chord above if using one guitar.
F# E G#
Here we go She's on a hidden tableau
D A
just a 2-for-1 and the 2-for-1 is right
E D A <----|
down my alleyside I'm just a wasting behind |
|
|
Intro chord could be played here depending |
on whether a lead guitar is used or not |
Interlude:
F# E G#
don't you know its an easy thing when it's lost
D A
doesn't show when the ends are frayed .....and its tossed out
E D A
lined with silver thread I've seen you wasted behind
Interlude:
=================================================================
There is a bit of lead guitar in amongst the following starting
with a picking between the 5th fret on the B string and the
2nd fret on the G string. (listen out for the timing)

Play the above chords (or more likely Bass line with distortion)
with the following guitar lead on top
E|------------
B|------------
G|------9----- <--- slid all the way down
D|------------ to the nut continuously
A|------------
D|------------
then
E|------12---- <--- slid almost all the way
B|------------ down to the nut continuously
G|------------
D|------------
A|------------
D|------------
Ending with
E|------14---- <--- bent slightly towards the end
B|------------
G|------------
D|------------
A|------------
D|------------
There is another lead here too, a little way into the above which goes
something like this: (Don't quote me) Get some good headphones to listen out for it.
E|-2-4-5--7--9---5---9----5---9----5---9-9-9-9---5-----9---9--10--12-12--14-----
B|------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G|------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D|------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A|------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D|------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bend the last one
In amongst it is some lyrics too. Again get some good headphones to listen out for it.

slight slide and pause then.........
The D and A string is held down with the thumb.
Repeat the following three times
E|---x--x-x-----x-x-----x-----x-x-----x-x----x----
B|---7--x-x--7--x-x--7--x--7--x-x--7--x-x-7--x----
G|---x--x-x-----x-x-----x-----x-x-----x-x----x----
D|---x--x-x-----x-x-----x-----x-x-----x-x----x----
A|---6--6-6-----6-6-----6-----6-6-----6-6----6----
D|---6--6-6-----6-6-----6-----6-6-----6-6----6----
E|---x-----------x-x-----x------------------------
B|---x--6-5------x-x-----x------------------------
G|---x------7----6-x-6---x------------------------
D|---x-----------x-x-----9-6----------------------
A|---5-----------7-7-----6-6----------------------
D|---5-----------7-7-----6-6----------------------
Then the following two times
E|---x-----------x-x-----x------------------------
B|---x--6-5------x-x-----x------------------------
G|---x------7----6-x-6---x------------------------
D|---x-----------x-x-----9-6----------------------
A|---5-----------7-7-----6-6----------------------
D|---5-----------7-7-----6-6----------------------
Ending with the following
E|---x-----------x--------------------------------
B|---x--6-5------x--------------------------------
G|---x------7----6--------------------------------
D|---x-----------x--------------------------------
A|---5-----------7--------------------------------
D|---5-----------7--------------------------------
You could choose to omit the thumb and move these notes onto the D String instead.
I reckon that this is how it is really played, but I like the thumb technique when
playing this solo guitar.
