From the “New Multitudes” album (Jay Farrar, Will Johnson, Anders Parker, & Yim Yames) Lyrics by Woody Guthrie Music by Jay Farrar Tabs by Tim Prizer (tim_prizer@yahoo.com) ***Farrar recorded this song in an alternate tuning. This is as close as I could come to translating the song into standard tuning, and I think it sounds quite nice. Please pay close attention to the chord fingerings, as they are all slight variations on the standard major chords and require that you hit the bass notes – my effort to come as close as possible to reproducing the heavy bass sound of the alternate tuning. [F]: x-3-3-2-1-x--| [C]: 3-3-2-0-1-x--| [G]: 3-2-0-0-0-x--| [F*]: 1-3-3-2-1-1-| Intro**: [F] [C] [F] [C] [F] [C] [F] [C] **(Though it’s far from perfect, I mimic Jay’s hammers and slides in the intro by hammering the 3rd string on the 2nd fret on the very first strum and then, in making the transition from the [F] to the [C], hammering the 4th string on the 2nd fret and then striking it open before hitting the [C] chord. Listen and play around with it to see what I mean.)
