Tune down a half step (D# G# C# F# A# d#). All chord names I've listed below are based on standard tuning so as not to confuse folks with unfamiliar chord names. Throughout the song, each time you’re on the D, Am, and Cadd9 chords (in the verse and chorus), embellish the chord by hammering the G note on the high e string. This will cause the D to change to Dsus, the Am to change to Amsus, and the Cadd9 to change to Cadd9*. Chords used: G 3 2 0 0 3 3 D x 0 0 2 3 2 Dsus x 0 0 2 3 3 Am x 0 2 2 1 0 Amsus x 0 2 2 1 3 Cadd9 x 3 2 0 3 0 Cadd9* x 3 2 0 3 3 Intro: G D(to Dsus) Am(to Amsus) Cadd9(to Cadd9*) (These same chord hammers will be used in all verses and choruses, except for the last line of the chorus; only the bridge changes. I didn't repeat these changes in the chords below; just assume that they are happening.) G D Am Cadd9 Time goes by; I guess that's how it goes. G D Am Cadd9 We've come a long way, girl, from those cotton fields out on Old Creek Road. G D Am Cadd9 I was a skinny boy; you were the homecoming queen. G D Am Cadd9 We'd sit on those starry nights, tangled up in love, dreaming young lovers' dreams. Am Cadd9 Am Cadd9 Girl, it felt so good, just like forever should. Chorus: G D Am Cadd9 I get lost sometimes in the memories, thinking back to the way things used to be. G D Am Cadd9 Just you and I, when we were young, in my Pontiac, racin' to the sun. G D Am Cadd9 Well, we held the whole world in our hands; living day by day was our only plan. G D Am Cadd9 Just you and I, when we were young, in my Pontiac, racin' to the sun. Cadd9 D (no hammers in this line) And to the radio we'd sing; it sure was a good thing. G D Am Cadd9 [ Tab from: http://www.guitaretab.com/d/damon-johnson/379997.html ] G D Am Cadd9 Girl, I tried to be the man you wanted me to be. G D Am Cadd9 I got off track somewhere, started running with the fools and fiends. G D Am Cadd9 I picked up and left your world, didn't know back then the reasons I went away. G D Am Cadd9 Sometimes, it all comes back like a ghost train full of yesterdays. Am Cadd9 Am Cadd9 It carries me back home, back to that Old Creek Road. Chorus: G D Am Cadd9 I get lost sometimes in the memories, thinking back to the way things used to be. G D Am Cadd9 Just you and I, when we were young, in my Pontiac, racin' to the sun.
