Alana Henderson Wax and Wane This is a beautiful song that I saw live at a conference (of all things), and wanted to learn how to play. There were no chords online (or even lyrics), so here's my version. For Alana's work, see http://alanahenderson.bandcamp.com/ No capo, standard tuning Em D C I could blame our partin for the fact that I'm not startin Em D C All my mornings at the time they are to start Em D C And I could summon up the sisterhood, cry "leave me out of widowhood" Em D C But that is melodrama on my part Em D C I could blame my greiving on the fact that I've been leaving us Em D C Behind the ones we were when this begun Em D C But I have rose-tinted us ruby, and I've conjured up a new me Em D C Who bent freely to her newly molded man Em D C But we bent and we broke and I meant what I spoke Em D C And the blame game does not produce a winner Em D C We went as far as we could go, we had to go that far to know Em D C We had nowhere left to aim and noone left to blame Em D C But the moon's wax and wane and the turn of the tide Em D C The moon's wax and wane and the turn of the tide [ Tab from: http://www.guitaretab.com/a/alana-henderson/353627.html ] Em D C And I could blame my parents for my vices so inherent that I Cannot shake them much as I may try But how much have my inherited or picked up since I was a kid That nature vs. nuture paradigm I could blame my turns that I take on the decisions that my head makes Then trace each error right back to my heart But is it broken because you toyed with it, or was it formed a little split That grows each year further and further apart But we love, and we lose, and we lash out and we bruise And the name of the game's just the living We go as far as we can go, we've got to go that far to know We have everything to gain, and knowing we can blame The moon's wax and wane and the turn of the tide The moon's wax and wane and the turn of the tide Em D C And so I looked at karma, and if I try not to harm another I will not be harmed by anything If I salute the magpie knock on wood will I be doing any good Am I strung up or do I pull the strings Well the fact I cling too tightly till my dreams come back and bite me Am I trying to make a science of an art And will the very fate I wish to move be the one that I am doomed by Thinking that I can steer this crazy cart But I live and I learn and I light and I'll burn Until the flame simmers down to a spark I'll go as far as I can go I've got to go that far to know That I have everything to gain and knowing I can't train The moon's wax and wane and the turn of the tide The moon's wax and wane and the turn of the tide (break) Em D C Em D C I never said it was your fault I only wanted to blame someone I never said it was your fault I only wanted to blame someone The moon's wax and wane and turn of the tide The moon's wax and wane and turn of the tide C C C C C C C C Em |
